The Book of Common Prayer establishes the Daily Prayer Office as the foundational spiritual practice of the Anglican Way. The Daily Office teaches us how to pray, joins us with other Christians through time and throughout the world in a common prayer life, and feeds us a well rounded spiritual meal every day.
It doesn’t matter how “spiritual” you may feel, you need to pray every day. Whatever you may be going through, the Daily Office keeps you connected to God through praying his Word. It is best practice to schedule a consistent 20-30 minute time every day for prayer.
When you first start praying the Daily Office, it may feel stilted and difficult. But don’t give up. Keep at it! Learning to pray is like learning to dance. Set your heart to memorize these beautiful prayers and patterns, and eventually you’ll find comfort and strength in the regular biblical prayer rhythm of the Daily Office.
Below you will find a list of necessary and/or helpful resources to begin this essential spiritual practice.
