LENTEN JOURNEY 2025 READING JEREMY TAYLOR ON “HOLY LIVING AND DYING”

Join us on our Lenten journey through Jeremy Taylor’s Holy Living and Dying , while enjoying fellowship and a soup supper together. Soup begins at 6PM. Discussion lasts from 6:45 till 7:30PM. We complete the night with Compline.

Jeremy Taylor (born 1613AD) is known as the “Shakespeare of Divines” for his eloquent writing style and is often cited as one of greatest writers of prose in the English language. He lived during the tumultuous times of the English Civil war, and remained faithful in his calling to follow Christ. We will read selections from his books Holy Living and Holy Dying, where he gives practical spiritual instruction on how to live as a Christian and prepare oneself for death. Physical copies will soon be available at our Book Store Ministry. You can also download the PDF for free here.

If you would like to sign up for bringing a soup or side, please contact Fr. Adam Gosnell at office@lightofchristgeorgetown.org.

Hindrances (A Poem by Jeremy Taylor)

He that will sow his field with hopefull seed,
Must every bramble, every thistle weed;
And when each hindrance to the graine is gone,
A fruitfull crop shall rise of corn alone.
